Overview The Rotary Foundation's oldest and best-known program is Ambassadorial Scholarships, established in 1947. Since that time, more than 30,000 men and women from 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices. Today, the Ambassadorial Scholarships Program of The Rotary Foundation is the world's largest privately funded international scholarships program. More than 1,200 scholarships were awarded for study in 2000-01. Through grants totaling approximately US$26 million, recipients from some 69 countries will study in more than 64 different nations. The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. Today, the program sponsors several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. While abroad, scholars serve as ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with local Rotarians and others the experiences that led to greater understanding of their host countries. Scholarships Available Rotary District 5030 of Greater Metropolitan Seattle will sponsor a total of "at least" 3 scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies.  Seattle residents are encouraged to apply through the Seattle International District Rotary Club.  Residents of other cities or towns should apply through their local Rotary club.  Academic-year ambassadorial scholarship—covers one academic year of full-time study at an institution assigned by the Rotary Foundation.  Two (2) scholarships will be awarded.  Cultural ambassadorial scholarship—covers three-to-six months intensive language training and cultural immersion at a language school selected by the Rotary Foundation.  One (1) scholarship will be awarded.
Deadlines   The timeline for the Ambassadorial Scholarship Program involves planning over one year ahead of the desired year abroad.  Materials for Program Year 2009-2010 are available as of November, 2007. The following dates indicate the general timeline for application submittal and review.  These dates will be revised as necessary when the specific materials are published.  For more information, visit the Rotary International website. Tentative application and selection dates:  April 14, 2008:  deadline for submitting scholarship applications to Seattle International Rotary..  May 9, 2008:  SIR forwards scholarship applications to District 5030 chair.  October 1, 2008:  Rotary  District 5030 submits nominations to Rotary International.  December 15, 2008:  Rotary International will notify recipients of their selection.
